Dr Cynthia Porter commenced a Dietetic Practice in Carnarvon in early 1983.
The practice was transferred to Geraldton in 1988 with expanding services into the Murchison, Midwest, Gascoyne Regions and the Turquoise Coast.
Dr Cynthia Porter (known as Cindy) expanded the dietetic service to include diabetes education with further education and study to be awarded a PhD in 2014. The PhD research topic was on Diabetes in Pregnancy with a particular focus for Indigenous women.
In 2017 with Meredith Irving and Stacey Carden joining the busy practice the dietetic and diabetes service has expanded traveling from Geraldton to Jurien Bay in the south, Mingenew and the Murchison in the east and as far north as Carnarvon.
Dr Cindy is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian status. This Adv APD accreditation is a recognition by the Dietitians Association of Australia acknowledging the high standard, diversity of work, commitment to the dietetics in Australia and for being recognized nationally and internationally for dietetic work.
Both Meredith and Stacey are also Accredited Practising Dietitians with the Dietitians Association of Australia. As specialist dietitians all three are specialist Nutritionists. All three dietitians are Accredited Nutritionists which gives all dietitians at Durlacher Dietetics the specialist skills of discussing food and nutrition which is based on scientific and medical evidence.
Stacey has further qualifications and is an Accredited Sports Dietitian and a member of Sports Dietitians Australia (SDA). Members of SDA provide accurate diet and nutritional information and advice, based on scientific evidence, to promote healthy eating and enhance the health and performance of all active Australians. Diabetes Education and Care
The Australian Diabetes Educator Association or ADEA recognizes Dr Cindy Porter, Meredith Irving and Stacey Carden as Credentialled Diabetes Educator. This is achieved by post graduate study, Cindy completed a Master of Diabetes Education from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Curtin University together with clinical experience. This ongoing credentialing ensures the most up to date information and evidence based medicine is provided. Meredith studied at James Cook University for her Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education and Stacey completed her Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education at Deakin University.
Dr Cindy Porter is qualified to care for patients with Type 1 Diabetes in the initiation and ongoing care for insulin pumps. Dr Porter is a Certified Pump Trainer for the three major insulin pumps in Australia.
